Dimensions A5, Media: Photography and watercolour

107-402-2765: These pieces are from foundation course projects. 1 and 2 are from a brief to react to a given text. My exploration lead me to look at the abstraction of the body through printing with it. 3, 6, 7 and 8 are part of a project on Place, where I became intrigued by the markings we make in our environment. 10, 11 and 12 are a project exploring mapping. I looked at tunnelling through pages, mapping out a narrative, and the contours of a face. My work recently has become focused on the markings and little details we make in our environment, intentionally or not. Muddy footsteps, a coffee ring stain, fingerprints on a page, these for me open a narrative or reminder that someone has been there, that a whole story has happened there, like a ghost of an event. MMU’s Fine Art course really stood out for me when I visited, the keen and commited attitude of students and professors I spoke to really excited me. I am looking for an environment in which I can be inspired by dedicated and driven artists, in order to push my art to it’s full potential. I am aware that I need to be in a risk-taking, speculative, experimental situation and the Programme Aims seem to define this perfectly.
